Why make year long "resolutions" you aren't going to keep and will probably end up beating yourself up about failing at? <-- what a very poorly structured sentence! oh well...
This year, I am going to break it down by month. I feel that a 29-31 day goal is much more achievable/realistic.
Each month, I will post what my monthly goals are - I may as well keep myself accountable, by letting you know what my goals are too! I believe it's been proven that by sharing your goals with others, you are more likely to commit to them and follow through.
I suppose the only "resolution" I am actually making for 2012 is to not beat myself up when/if I am unable to complete a goal. What's the point of doing that? I think by having this attitude from the beginning it will actually help me succeed. If I'm not successful with a goal, I can always try again in a different month. There's nothing set in stone saying 'You failed, never attempt this again. You'll only end up screw it up again.'
If it's a goal I achieved and I want to stick to it again, I'll give it another month. You know, as in, "I was able to do it for 30 days, maybe I can do it for another 31 days!" Maybe I'll skip a month in between, maybe I'll do it consecutively.
There's no telling (until I announce them that is...) what my goals can and will be. They could be anything. Maybe to:
- go to a movie once a week for a month (while that seems expensive, I'd probably go to the $3 theater...),
- cut out soda for a month,
- go to a different valley museum each week for a month,
- take a Zumba class,
- walk 3 miles 3 times a week for a month,
- the possibilities are endless!
